Severe Headaches, Numbness, Pain & Fatigue - Margie Sanders

Before I came to see Dr. Shiels, I was experiencing severe headaches, numbness in my head, neck pain, fatigue and increased sleep problems. I felt so bad; it took everything I had to go to work. I would have to lay my head down on my lunch hour and when I got home from work, I would immediately go to bed. I was so exhausted. I am so thankful for my family being so patient and understanding. They knew this was not me, and that I was a completely different person. During this time, I was seeing my primary physician for tests and trying different medications. I was also referred to a neurologist. The neurologist ordered a MRI and sleep study that showed nothing that would be causing my symptoms. I was then sent to physical therapy for 6 weeks. After a couple weeks of therapy I did get a little relief. It was there that it was suggested that I see a chiropractor and get a massage. I have always been scared of chiropractors. It’s the whole cracking the neck thing that scared me the most. A lot of my friends kept telling me to go as well. I blew it off and decided I would go for the massage. After my wonderful massage from Elizabeth, (Salon Ella Par), she then recommended that I see a chiropractor. I told Elizabeth that I was scared of having my neck cracked. She referred me to Dr Shiels and assured me that he was a different kind of chiropractor. I took that as my sign from God that I needed to go. I called the next day and made my appointment. I figured what could it hurt. I had to try something! I had had a constant headache for over 3 months and was beginning to develop anxiety because I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. After meeting Dr Shiels he put my fears to rest and I decided to give upper cervical care a try. After being adjusted only a couple of times, my headache started to ease. I started having more energy and the anxiety went away.  After a few weeks, I was able to stop taking a sleep aid that I had been taking for over 3 years. I still have an occasional headache but at least I know what it is and where I need to go.

 I am truly blessed to have found Camden County Clinic of Chiropractic. Everyone there is wonderful and caring. Between them and my massage therapist, Elizabeth I feel better than ever.

I tell everyone who is having health issues to go see Dr Shiels.  Most of them have and are having amazing results as well.

Upper Back Pain - Chris Theriault

I was at a local event last year and had been having ongoing, upper back pain. At times, the pain made it uncomfortable and even hard to breath. There were many chiropractors at this particular event and I spoke to nearly all of them. Dr. Shiels and his staff were absolutely stellar. I was very impressed by their professionalism, honesty and genuine concern for your well being. It has been nine months now since I started the care plan provided by Dr. Shiels, and I can honestly say I feel 100% better, with more energy and comfort than ever before. I will continue chiropractic care even after my care plan is over. Thank you Dr. Shiels and staff for everything you have done for me and my wife, who is much happier now too, just from my results. Allergies and Anxiety - Angelina Perry

Before I came to see Dr. Wells, I was experiencing anxiety attacks that I never had before. My chest always felt tight, I was short of breath, and my heart would beat extremely fast during these episodes. After being adjusted only a couple of times, my anxiety got a lot better. I have yet to have another anxiety attack, which is a great relief to me. Another area that has greatly improved since my adjustments is my allergies. As nasty as is it to describe, I have always had problems with thick mucous buildup that just wouldn't come up. Now I can honestly say that although it is still present, it is much less bothersome than before. I have experienced a lot less mucous buildup and now it comes up with no problem.

Overall, I feel like my health has gotten so much better. I think the work Dr. Wells does is life changing, and that our community is so blessed to have this special kind of chiropractic care. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful staff that truly cares and makes every visit friendly, comfortable and impacting!

Numbness in Both Forearms and Hands - B. Van Pelt III

I can count on a very short list of things that have really made a huge impact on my life. One of them was taking a few minutes to be scanned by Dr. Shiels' team for cervical problems and the subsequent treatment. I had been suffering from numbness and pain in my hands and arms for over 4 years, I had 2 MRI's, nerve conduction testing 3 times, and had been evaluated by specialists at Shands' and The University of Florida several times by highly renowned doctors whom I thought knew everything. I was basically told the problem was probrably in my head. Dr. Shiels immediately found in seconds what previous doctors had not. He was able to quickly diagnose the exact problem and set up a schedule of treatment. After the first adjustment, the numbness started going away. It has progressively gotten better, and I do not suffer on a daily basis anymore.

I am also grateful that the problem that was causing my symptoms is being corrected. The actual problem was a misalignment of my Atlas and Axis; it was pinching the brain stem causing the numbness and pain. The long term damage from not being diagnosed and treated earlier was spinal degeneration. From looking at the initial evaluation, I am in Stage 3 of spinal degeneration, I have bone spur growth at C5 & C7, and my neck was completely straight. From my latest x-rays, I have partial correction and the curvature in my neck is coming back.

I think that Upper Cervical evaluations should be a part of regular health screenings throughout life. I do not believe tha majority of people suffering from various problems are aware that this could be causing the problems, and with the ease of evaluating this problem, there is no excuse for not making it a part of regular evaluations. I also think traditional doctors need more training in referring patients to Upper Cervical Chiropractic Specialists.

Heart Palpitations, Anxiety Attacks & Shortness of Breath - D. Worrell

There are no words to describe how thankful I am for Dr. Shiels and everyone that works in the office.  Over several months, I had experienced heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, and shortness of breath more regularly than ever before.  It felt as though my heart was working harder than it should. I kept going to the doctor’s office where I was hooked up to EKG machines and 24 hour heart halters.  The results came back normal, and the doctor put me on Prozac thinking I was just stressing out too much.  In the long run, everyone just made me feel like a hypochondriac, but I knew something just didn’t feel right.  At this point I had given up on figuring out what was wrong.  One night I decided to go with my husband to one of the classes Dr. Shiels offers on Tuesday nights, and that’s when I was able to receive a free consultation by the referral that Dr. Shiels gave me.  The subluxation of my atlas was much worse than I ever expected.  Truthfully, I never even imagined that I had a subluxation in the first place.  I stopped all medication I was on and after my first adjustment it felt as though a ton of bricks was lifted off of my chest.  I could breathe and I could fall asleep without feeling as though my heart was in my throat!  To my surprise this wasn’t the only problem the adjustment fixed.  My hormone levels have seemed to finally level out.  I always thought it was hereditary since my mother experienced horrible hormone cycles as well.  Along with my hormone levels, went my acne.  Over just the last few years I had been prescribed Doxycyline, Retin-A Micro, and BenzaClin.  I tried to use Pro-Active and Skin ID, as well as other numerous skin care methods to rid my face of acne. As of right now I am skin medication free, and as acne free as I’ve ever imagined being without use of chemicals.  It is as though this alignment has turned my life upside down compared to what it was, but I guess in this case my life has finally been turned right side up.  I thank God for placing me in the care of Camden County Clinic of Chiropractic.

Fibromyalgia & Myofacial - Merri Pass

When I first came in I was constantly in pain at the rate scale of 7-8. I couldn't focus mentally and had blurry vision. Balance and any amount of phyiscal activity sent my muscles screaming. Recovery time took weeks for the simplest activities.

Now my shoulder has less pain and quicker recovery time and almost all of my fibro issues are gone. I feel like a new woman. More focused and energized than I have been in years.

Hip Pain - Brad Bond

For a number of years, standing for even short periods caused pain in my hip. Although it became more and more frequent, I didn't seek help. Over the counter pain remedies helped but of course, that was only a temporary fix.

I was working a booth for the Red Cross at the "Fun in the Sun" event in St. Marys. During a break, I stopped by Dr. Shiels table where I was offered a scan of my neck. It showed an acute subluxation so I made an appointment with Dr. Shiels. After a diagnostic appointment, we found that my "atlas" was out of position causing my weight to be shifted to my left side. I followed the prescribed treatment plan and Dr. Shiels made the necessary adjustments. Soon my standing and walking were noticeably PAIN FREE!

Last week I was hiking in NC and stood through an outdoor concert....PAIN FREE!

Dr. Shiels conquered my problem in a comprehensive profressional manner. The staff is friendly and professional. I always enjoy my visit!

Fibromyalgia - Darlene Harding

Before coming to Dr. Shiels I have suffered from Fibromyalgia for the last 10 years. I have pain daily in my feet, arms, hands and lower back. The only medical treatment doctors could give me was prescribing 15 different medications, most of which made me depressed for days at a time.

I was skeptical about upper cervical chiropractic but Dr. Shiels gave me a research paper which explains why a lot of people suffering from fibromyalgia have misalignment in the upper cervical spine. I have been under Dr. Shiels care for 3 months and the pain is not near as bad as it was. I am able to work more efficiently and actually started to walk around my block again.

Pressured to join a friend at what seemed to be, just another “health fair” turned out to be the best thing for me…

After 5 years of pain in my body, from neck pain, lower back pain and dreaded hip pain... after 5 doctors “diagnosis and suggestions", prescription medicines and physical therapy with NO relief Camden County Clinic of Chiropractic has been such a blessing to me in my life just when I thought about giving up in finding relief for my aching body. I was very unaware of relief that could come from Chiropractic care.

Dr. Shiels, Tricia and Heather enlightened me in so many ways and showed so much care and concern for not only myself but other patients as well. I have taken so much interest in Chiropractic services I find myself advocating for the practice!

Tension in Shoulders - Rita Shoemake

“I first started seeing Dr. Shiels in April, 2009 when I was introduced to chiropractic care while working for him as his assistant. I had no idea there were different types of chiropractic care or anything about subluxation until he explained it all to me. I thought you only went to see a chiropractor for back problems. I soon found out that I was totally wrong. I was complaining about lots of stress and tension in my neck and shoulder area and went on to explain to Dr. Shiels that it gets so tight and bad that I have my kids do what I call a karate chop on my shoulders to relieve all the tension in my neck and shoulders. It would hurt to the point of putting me in tears.

Since seeing Dr. Shiels, I am glad to report that I no longer ask the kids to perform karate chops on my shoulders. I am happy to announce that I can perform my daily job duties in a high paced retail store, that could clearly put the tension back in my shoulders due to the stress of working in a high pace environment.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Shiels for not only giving me the opportunity to work for him but also for introducing me to chiropractic treatment and what it means to be subluxated and how it is treated. The day I met Dr. Shiels my life was changed for the better. God has a way of answering prayers by using caring and helpful people. I’ve been dealing with back pains and tension in my shoulders over three years. The pain I was living with made it difficult for me to exercise and as a result I gained weight which caused me to have health problems. Furthermore, I can remember there was a time I had to roll out of bed as a result of the pain in my back, as well as stay in bed due to my back pain, and wait for the pain medicine to work before I felt relief. Severe Headaches - Ann Spencer Dulac

I started coming to the Camden County Clinic of Chiropractic to get help and relief of my severe headaches that I had for months. I had gone for so many tests, popped pills, and had been to the E.R. for shots because they got so severe. Nothing worked. Then I heard of this clinic through a demo for the Pak’s karate school my son is in. That was the best thing that happened to me.

I came in to be seen, the first time my atlas was completely out. I didn’t even know what an atlas was until that day. I had no idea it controlled everything in your body, now it explained a lot of other symptoms I had, including being tired all the time, no energy at all, back pain, neck pain, etc. After Dr. Shiels adjusted me that day I felt like a new person, I went home telling family and everyone. I had no more headaches, I wasn’t so tired, my back felt better, and I just plain felt better all together! Now my husband and son come in they are both currently being treated and feeling great. I am so glad I found out about the Camden County Clinic of Chiropractic and Dr. Shiels, I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t get treated... it would have gotten worse I know that! I had no idea that there was an upper cervical chiropractor... well I do now! Migraine Headaches - Fostina Mitchell

I am giving thanks to God, who is the head of my life, for directing my path to Dr. Jon Shiels.

When I went to Dr. Jon Shiels, I had migraine headaches. My shoulder was so tense that it caused my migraine headaches to come more often. I also had lower back pain that made it hard for me to enjoy walking and riding my bicycle. These symptoms were something I was dealing with everyday. Sometimes I would sit down and cry because the pain was so bad. When I got home, I would have to lay down to ease the pain that I was dealing with that day. I was afraid that my migraine headaches could cause some major health problems.

I thank God for Relay for Life; that is where I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Shiels. He introduced me to a machine that he used to read my spine and let me know that something bad was going on in my body.

Dealing with pain most of your life is no joke. Since attending Dr. Jon Shiels program, I deal with the good things that have happened in my life instead of the pain I was accustomed to experiencing on a daily basis. I’ve not had any of the headaches since I have been attending his program. My shoulder is more relaxed; no tightness or tension. Also, I am walking and riding my bicycle three to six miles a day with no pain. To be able to walk into the kitchen without holding on to the sink because of the pain is a joy. Being able to mop my floors without stopping to rest because of the pain in my lower back is a blessing. I feel like I have my life back now because I am pain free.

Chronic Back Pain - Laurice Lancaster

I had been suffering in my back for a while, I would tell my husband if he could just “pop” my back it would stop hurting. I eventually decided to go see a doctor. I met with Dr. Shiels and he was so informative about my problem. He was the first doctor to really explain to me what was going on with my problem and how he was going to correct it.

After finding out that my atlas was not centered, it was all the way to the left, he adjusted me and the pain that I was feeling was gone. My neck had no curve and as time has progressed my neck is starting to get its curve back! I am very pleased with my progress and am grateful that Dr. Shiels helped change my life for the better.

Allergies - Ellen & Austin Crothers

My son Austin is 9 years old. He has taken allergy medication twice a day every for the past 2 years. His symptoms were chronic coughing and a runny nose. Since he has been treated by Dr. Shiels, he has not taken medication in over 3 weeks.

I can see the difference in his sleeping habits. He does not cough while sleeping and I don't have to worry about him through the night.

Every Mom wants their child to have a healthy body and have a happy childhood. Austin now has both.

Neck Pain - Teddi Forbes

When I first came to see Dr. Shiels, I had already been to just about everyone. From the very first time that I was adjusted, I noticed a slight easiness in walking and moving around. Later, I realized that I was actually walking with less pain.

The pain in my hands and feet is still there but it is difficult to explain how much easier it is to move about, walk and go up and down the stairs. It just feels easier to move around.

Most of the pain in my neck and at the base of my skull is gone. There was a time when my neck felt "rusty" and it hurt to move my head.

I came to Dr. Shiels with chronic headaches and lower back pain. Dr. Shiels examined me and asked what happened 15 to 20 years ago. I had been in a severe car accident and was knocked unconscious. My neck had been hurt but the Dr. prescribed pain medication. Over time, the headaches and back pain increased to the point that I decided to try a Chiropractor.

My sister recommended this as she had tried one and it helped her tremendously. I was reluctant, but needed relief so I made an appointment with Dr. Shiels.
